Not long ago, a medical doctor would’ve been called a “quack” by prescribing meditation to his patients. But, don’t be surprised if today your doctor says: “Have you considered meditation?”; because everyday more & more doctors & medical professionals are awakening to the benefit of this thousand year old practice. In fact, the medical & scientific communities are confirming what spiritual teachers & ayurvedic practitioners have known for ages.
So, the verdict is in. Meditation is no longer a “New Age/Hippie Fad”! The practice is now backed by thousands of positive studies; demonstrating amazing results. And new meditation research & findings are being published almost daily.
Today’s “Meditation Movement” isn’t going to be just a passing fad either. It’s not like some new popular herb that everyone is talking about today & forgets tomorrow; because anyone who gives it a sincere try will notice the positive & profound effect it has upon their lives. (And you don’t have to worry about all the possible nasty side effects that come with taking a pill.)
Also, you don’t have to belong to a particular faith to give it a try. It’s a practice that can be implemented by anyone. And it’s benefits don’t come through some sort of hypnosis either; so don’t be afraid.
Meditation Benefit: Reduced Stress
Meditation works on a physical level – because it’s a technique/exercise which helps the body relax & settles our normally anxious/overactive mind. It’s a physically healing practice because it restores the body to a state of balance.
Much of the illness & disease affecting humanity today is stress related. Now, you might say “but isn’t our body built to handle stress.” Yes, it is! However, today’s problem is that many of us are OVER-STRESSED.
We are stressed by our jobs, families, the hectic pace of life, the news we see & hear, etc… And if we stay stressed too long, then unfortunately damage starts to occur. Through prolonged stress we become overly imbalanced or DIS-EASED!
This prolonged stress can affect or manifest as illness in any system of the body. For example: Stress causes High Blood Pressure – which leads to heart disease, kidney failure, etc…; stress leads to cellular damage; physical pain; disruption of digestive system; sleep disorders; it even effects our immune system, and a poor immune system leaves us susceptible to all kinds of sickness, etc… By practicing any of the various meditation techniques we learn how to de-stress the body; and therefore, we help the body to heal itself.
But, to reap all the positive benefits – and to truly be a form of preventative medicine – meditation must be practiced on a DAILY BASIS. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts in life. We must put in the time * make the effort. But, on the positive side – once firmly established in a practice it will become a very enjoyable & pleasant part of our day.
Good Luck with your practice & may your days always be filed with an abundance of love, happiness, and peace! ~ AnthonyProfeta
