5 Reasons A Group Meditation May Help Your Practice

by | Jun 9, 2015 | 0 comments

At its basic level meditation is an individual exercise, but joining a meditation group can make the practice Anthony Profeta Group Meditationseem easier. Here are some reasons why:

1. GROUP MEDITATIONS PROVIDE AN ENCOURAGING ENVIRONMENT.

Many people say that in a group setting they find a more encouraging environment in which to sit still and be quiet. The group setting also connects the meditator with like-minded people. And this will come in very helpful during certain phases of our path. You see it’s natural for every meditator to go through a phase where they think “am I doing this right?”; and when we practice alone, this doubt can kill any attempts at building a long-term daily practice. But in a group, instead of silently wondering to ourselves, we can ask questions and learn how others have dealt with similar issues. We will often find that someone else has already dealt with the problem we are having and has a solution for us.

2. GROUP MEDITATION GIVES US A SPECIFIC TIME AND PLACE TO MEDITATE.

One of the biggest issues facing the meditators I work with is that they struggle to keep a specific place and time to meditate. Finding, joining, or creating your own meditation group defines the place and time in advance. And this can be very helpful in building your practice.

3. GROUP MEDITATIONS MAY HELP YOU SIT LONGER

Many people find that a group meditation helps them to stay sitting for the full amount of time; since they do not want to get up & disturb their fellow meditators. In addition going to a group meditation, is like going to the gym with a workout partner. Having someone at the gym with us causes us to workout a little harder and maybe do an extra set we wouldn’t have done if they weren’t there. In the same manner, by going to a group meditation you may work at the practice a little longer than you would if you were home by yourself.

Also, many beginners find that joining a group outside of their house makes it easier to sit because the distractions of home (Children, Spouse, TV, Phone, Computer, etc…) won’t be there.

4. GROUP MEDITATIONS WILL HELP YOU RELAX MORE QUICKLY.

There is power in numbers and when meditators come together they form a “group energy”. Many meditators say that when they enter a group environment the energy of that group helps their minds to quickly calm down & they feel that their meditations are deeper and more fulfilling. Also besides our own lives, this energy, which is created by people coming together with a shared intention, can have an amazing inmpact on our communities and our universe

5. GROUP MEDITATION MAY HELP YOU FEEL MORE CONNECTED

Group meditators often report that they feel more connected to nature and others.Group Meditation Anthony Profeta

Therefore, it may be worth finding a group meditation in your local community. If you’re new to meditation it can be very helpful to meet and talk with people who have been practicing for years. And for those who are experienced meditators helping & guiding new comers in the practice is a wonderful form of service. So, let’s help one another on the path to health, happiness, peace, & enlightenment.

May your days always be filled with love, happiness, & peace,

Anthony
