Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine Emeritus and creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, is a innovator in mind-body medicine. In fact, the stress reduction program created by Kabat-Zinn, called Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), is offered by medical centers, hospitals, and health maintenance organizations around the country.
Mindfulness-Based Stress reduction is meditation, but Dr Kabat-Zinn named his technique MBSR in order to make it more secular sounding & get meditation out to the masses. He defines mindfulness:
“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; On purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”
Therefore, mindfulness is a way of being. The video below explains exactly what MBSR is and how the practice can change your life.
